Android 1.0 SDK Release 2 Is Out

androidlogo1-thumb.png

Android developers are going to be opening early holiday presents courtesy of Google. The Android 1.0 SDK Release 2 is now available. Before you start asking questions, let's get the obvious one out the way: is it compatible with the earlier version? Yes, it is, so don't worry about it. If you have other questions, the source should be able to help you with those.

In 1.0_r1, it was possible for developers to write technically-illegal code by using the Java Reflection APIs to access private or protected fields and methods. 1.0_r2 fixes that problem by enforcing private/protected visibility of items accessed via Reflection.

As expected, the post is more technical than usual. After all, it's meant for developers and all. The second interesting note is that developer devices are more available than before, thanks to a new program that you can read about here. Overall, things are good for Android, so make sure you read the release notes for full details regarding the second release of the SDK.
