Android SDK Delayed, Contest Extended

Google is going to delay the release of the Android SDK, saying that it is undergoing "significant updates" that need several weeks to develop.

We'd like to let you know that we are extending the submission deadline for the first Android Developers Challenge to 14 April 2008. Based on the great feedback you've given us, we've made significant updates to the SDK that we'll be releasing in several weeks. In order to give you extra time to take advantage of these forthcoming UI and API enhancements, we've decided to extend the submission deadline. In addition, a fair number of developers have also asked for more time to build and polish their applications.

We reported earlier that some developers had complaints about the Android and it looks like Google's listening. Contest participants are free to use whatever version of the SDK they like, so having a new version out in a few weeks is not equal to starting over. Of course, the fixes might make up for the development cost in the long run, so who knows?
