App Store Downloads Reach 1.5 Billion

128px-Apple-logo.png

Apple proudly announced that the App Store has crossed a landmark 1.5 billion downloads. That's a billion and a half of applications downloaded, further solidifying the iPhone's place in mobile software.

Apple® today announced that customers have downloaded more than 1.5 billion applications in just one year from its revolutionary App Store, the largest applications store in the world. The App Store is also growing at an incredible pace with more than 65,000 apps and more than 100,000 developers in the iPhone™ Developer Program.

Those apps reach 77 countries and 40 million iPhones and iPod Touch units combined. If you own one of these devices, take a look at the apps you have installed and count which ones you downloaded from the App Store to find out how much you contributed to those numbers. On a side note, I'm wondering how many of those 40 million iPhones have been jailbroken. Those numbers are probably something we're never going to see.
