App Store Says No To Twitter App

128px-Apple-logo.png

The App Store approval committee, or whatever it is that Apple calls the governing body that makes the decisions about what apps make it or not. It has said no to an update to an iPhone Twitter app known as Tweetie. Why? Because there's an offensive word in Twitter's search engine. As the source points out, when Apple was reviewing the app, Internet users were using offensive language. The powers-that-be saw it and did not give the software its seal of approval.

You can see how silly this is. Obviously the developers of the app have no control over what happens on Twitter. Actually, Twitter itself won't be able to do anything either, unless it wants to start enforcing rules on the site. It's not a fun nor practical option, and a social networking site that isn't fun is not going to last in the business for very long.

Regardless, it's another entry in the list of App Store misses. Apple has all the right to be secretive about its screening process for apps, but that same secrecy is causing some hurt due to the inconsistency.
