Apple Drops iPhone Development NDA

apple-sans-nda.png

Apple has decided to drop the NDA for released iPhone apps, which means that creators and developers now have more freedom to work on their projects. It said that while the NDA was designed to protect, it was also unintentionally hindering creativity and interaction, something that the development process sorely needs.

However, the NDA has created too much of a burden on developers, authors and others interested in helping further the iPhone’s success, so we are dropping it for released software. Developers will receive a new agreement without an NDA covering released software within a week or so. Please note that unreleased software and features will remain under NDA until they are released.

It's a smart move, providing both sides with a win-win solution. For developers, the freedom should be a relief because they can now discuss their creations, as long as the "released software only" condition is met. For Apple, it's good PR, as the company has suffered bad press over its draconian control over iPhone software.
