Archiving Gmail On The iPhone

If you're an iPhone and Gmail user then you know that the two can co-exist. What you may not know is that you can configure both of them to behave differently when it comes to archiving. Google has posted the procedure on how to make mail you delete on your iPhone to be archived on Gmail instead.

First, get rid of your default set up. Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendar. Find your Gmail account under "Accounts," click on it, scroll to the bottom, and click "Delete Account." Don't worry -- it'll be back and better than ever in a sec.

Then manually configure IMAP using the "Other" menu option by following the instructions this video (also available in the Gmail Help Center):

From that point, the iPhone's trash bin will archive your email. On the Gmail side, the messages can be found under the "All Mail" category, sitting pretty in their perfect little archive.

So if you've got your iPhone and Gmail account integrated with each other, this is a perfect way to save space on your mobile while not actually deleting mail you've already read. A backup is always useful, folks, so make sure you implement the procedure here so you won't have to worry about deleting mail on your iPhone.
