Bidding For Canadian Wireless Spectrum Near Completion

42-15441875.jpg

The bidding for Canadian mobile coverage is coming to an end. The government-initiated auction hopes to bring more competition to the local mobile industry.

A government auction of wireless spectrum aimed at bringing fresh competition to Canada's cellphone market has reached its final stretch, with total bids reaching more than C$4 billion ($3.9 billion) so far -- about twice the amount expected.

Rogers, BCE and Telus are currently the dominant players in the local cellphone market, which amounts to $13 billion CAD. Hopefully, the auction will bring true competition to the arena, resulting in better options, cheaper prices and lower rates for consumers.
