CES: Yahoo! Pushes For Mobile Widgets

Yahoo! revealed its plans for mobile services at CES. The new Yahoo! mobile home page will be customizable, allowing users to define content that's displayed on their site. There's also a more driven focus into developing widgets for the platform.

In addition to unveiling the new look of the mobile Web page and client, Yahoo today plans to release documentation that will let third-party developers build mobile widgets. Over the next couple of weeks, Yahoo expects to release a more-robust software development kit, tools and support.

Yahoo! already supports a number of widgets for the PC, so it makes sense that it's the driving force behind mobile widget development. I'm just wondering about how it's all going to look like in the end. Widgets are nice, but they tend to clutter desktops in the PC environment. Considering the size of mobile screens, is that a problem we'll also see in the long run? Will Yahoo!'s push pay off? And how many of you actually use your mobiles to browse the web anyway?
