Dell To Enter Mobile Phone Business?

dell.gif

Hardware manufacturer Dell is reported to be getting into the mobile phone business. There are expectations that it will make an official announcement next month.

Dell is definitely getting into the mobile phone business, a plugged-in source tells us. Our source's claim supports a report that Dell could announce its mobile phone plans as soon as the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month.

The question that remains is what operating system the Dell phone is going to use. There's Windows Mobile, Android and Symbian to choose from. Of course, the companies behind those platforms are going to be attached as well, so one has to wonder which side Dell is going to ally itself with. Will it be Microsoft, Google or Nokia? Each has its own strengths and weaknesses, so whoever is making the decision isn't in an enviable position. Of course, it can throw everyone in a loop and come up with a platform of its own. I wouldn't count on it though.
