DRM: Still Alive & Kickin'

still-drm.jpg

Yesterday we reported that iTunes was going to get rid of DRM. Have you tried converting your tracks to DRM-free MP3s yet? If you haven't done so, don't bother. Users in other parts of the world, Canada included, are saying that it isn't working. Nobody knows why yet.

Was Apple only intending for this service to come to the US due to legal issues? Hopefully it’s just a matter of time before those regions currently without the option to unchain their libraries but until we get official word from Apple, we have to fear the worst.

Whatever the reason is, it looks like DRM is refusing to go down without a fight. That's hardly surprising given its persistent and annoying nature, but don't you wish that it would just go away? We'll continue to cover this as it develops. Hopefully we won't have to wait too long till we can use our music on other MP3 players.
