Gmail Mobile App To Run On Any Phone

If there's one thing that the App Store has shown everybody, it's the fact that developing software for cellphones is big business. Apple's competition knows that, which is why they're setting up mobile marketplaces of their own. The trouble is that each store comes with its own platform. For developers, having to create different versions of the same program for the sake of compatibility is a tedious process.

Google wants to come to the rescue. Google VP of Engineering Vic Gundrota showed a demo of a new Gmail app that can be used on any mobile, any platform.

It's all a preview for now, but we'll keep an eye on this one as it develops. Will developers pick this up or is an all-in-one solution too good to be true at this point?
