Google Acquires Mobile Social Networking Site

zingku2.jpg

Google recently bought a mobile social networking site as part of its attempt to take over the world. Or maybe it just wants to add a few more friends. The social networking site, named Zingku, has been in business since 2005. With this purchase, Google seeks to "provide people worldwide with direct access to Google applications, and ultimately the information they want and need, right from their mobile devices."

Zingku generates revenues by making its services available to "merchants" who wish to reach an audience. Merchants create "mobile flyers" and then publish/email a "zing-code" to their customers who opt to pull the flyer to their mobile phone. The customer can then zing it to those friends who they think may be interested.

And what does this mean for the rest of us? At the moment, nothing. You can be sure that Google's up to something though, so it's definitely worth keeping an eye on.
