Google Announces Business Listings Service

phone_graphic.gif

Google is stepping out of its Internet dominance and is branching out to a more service-oriented segment. If you ever find yourself lost in transit or would simply like to find out if there's a restaurant nearby, it's there to help. And yes, when I said that it was stepping out I meant that you don't need a computer to avail of the service.

You can use GOOG-411 to find and connect with businesses you've never called before, such as when you're in an unfamiliar city or when an immediate need arises -- like a plumbing emergency. You can also use GOOG-411 as a "fast dialer" for calls to your dentist, car mechanic, bank, or any other business that you call more than once but isn't in your phone's contact list.

The service is specifically tailored for Canada, so Canadian English is taken into consideration. If you want to try it out, call 1-800-GOOG-411 (1-800-4664-411). Google is offering this for free.
