Google Breaks Apple's Rules

Remember this headline? It was about an app that got through Apple's screening process. Now, do you remember this one? It dates back a few days, but not so much if you check us daily. Well, the two are about to get together because it looks like Google broke a few rules with its voice search for the iPhone. Here are the details:

One of the big rules is that Apple doesn't allow companies to use undocumented APIs to develop applications, and in Google's latest application release, it used one. CNet confirmed today that Google used an undocumented API in order to add a nifty feature, which allows the phone to sense that you want to conduct a verbal search, rather than using the touchscreen.

Regardless of how the two parties deal with this, one thing is clear: combined with the recent report about the mail app, it looks like Apple's screening process is having trouble. At this rate, who knows what else it might approve? If it doesn't show consistency in enforcing policy, other developers may cry foul when their apps get rejected.
