Google Launches New Geolocation API

If there's one thing that's notable this year in terms of technology trends then it has to be anything to do with locations. Everywhere you look there's a new device or service that caters to helping people find their way. Google is continuing that trend by using websites for navigation.

Imagine if web sites could provide you with customized information based on your current location, even if you don't have GPS. Today we're launching the Gears Geolocation API for mobile and desktop browsers, while two third-party developers are launching the first location-enabled web apps using this API on Windows Mobile.

Note that the search engine giant already has Google Maps and Google Earth, so it's clearly saying that it's not resting on its laurels. More details via the source.
