Google Opens Over A Million Books For Mobiles

google-book-toc.jpg

Don't look now, but if you're a bibliophile (that's fancy talk for "book lover") then Google just made your day. The search engine giant has just made 1.5 million public domain titles available electronically. What's even better is that they've been scanned and reformatted to fit your mobile screen.

Basically, if you can get to http://books.google.com/m on your phone’s browser, you’ve got access to all of these titles. Bear in mind that public domain titles aren’t going to include many modern books, but with 1.5 million choices, there has to be something for everyone.

In case you're wondering what's available, a few Sherlock Holmes stories are public domain. You can also read the work of Ralph Waldo Emerson and Mark Twain. Fancy reading some science fiction? The War of the Worlds from H.G. Wells might be something up your alley. Want to read the original Alice in Wonderland story? Go right ahead and look it up. Sure, you won't find any modern titles, but with over a million choices, you're bound to find something interesting.
