HTC Gets Good Numbers

logo_110x60.gif

In the wake of the iPhone onslaught of 2007, rival phone maker HTC managed to keep in pace by earning an amount that's half of what Apple made. Since HTC's units are powered by Windows Mobile, it's a small victory for Microsoft as well. Excerpts:

Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC sold 2 million of the Microsoft-based mobile phones it developed to compete with the iPhone last year, the 'Touch' family of handsets.

The HTC Touch uses Microsoft Windows Mobile 6 software and has a touch screen that takes up most of its face, similar to the iPhone. The Touch was launched in June of last year, just weeks ahead of the iPhone.

The company sold 11.8 million handsets overall last year, an roughly 12 percent increase over 2006, executives said.

Although there's no doubt that 2007 was the year of the iPhone, seeing solid numbers for its competition is good news as well. The HTC Touch provides an alternative to Apple's unit, leaving leverage for consumers who are looking for options. Here's to another great year for both companies.
