HTC Renames Opal To Viva

touch-viva-ofc.jpg

It's easy to get lost in the technical wizardry of today's mobiles, but all that jazz comes at a price. A steep one, in most cases, so it's nice to see new models that still cater to the budget-conscious among us. The HTC Touch Viva is an example of that. Here are the details:

...the Touch Viva picks up where the original Touch left off and move things just a little bit downmarket for the benefit of smartphone lovers in emerging markets. To that end, the screen stays low-end with QVGA resolution, the radio tops out at EDGE speeds, and the camera's a mere 2-megapixel piece -- but by the same token, the Viva hangs onto WiFi, 256MB of ROM, and GPS.

You should be able to see this model in stores next month. Although no price is explicitly mentioned, it shouldn't be too much of a drain on your wallet. And by the way, if you're looking for news regarding the Opal, this is it. I don't know how it went from a gemstone to an expression though.
