iPhone SDK Downloaded 100,000 Times

Programmer or not, you might have been wondering how many people downloaded the iPhone SDK. The numbers are in: the iPhone development platform was downloaded a total of 100,000 times since it became available on March 6.

"Developer reaction to the iPhone SDK has been incredible with more than 100,000 downloads in the first four days," said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. "Also, over one million people have watched the launch video on Apple.com, further demonstrating the incredible interest developers have in creating applications for the iPhone."

Apple's brave step has the potential of breaking new grounds. Given enough traction, it could affect how cellphone manufacturers offer applications and services to their mobiles. It's only a matter of time before the first batch of apps arrive, so we'll see how they perform when they do.
