Jobs & Apple To Stop iPhone Hacks

42-15868594.jpg

Steve Jobs finally went official regarding Apple's stand on the recent proliferation of iPhone unlocking tools.

At a London Apple retail store where he announced the iPhone's Nov. 9 U.K. debut, Jobs responded to a question about whether Apple would put a stop to the unlocking hacks that have mushroomed recently. "It's a cat-and-mouse game," said Jobs. "We try to stay ahead. People will try to break in, and it's our job to stop them breaking in."

The iPhone hacks prove that some people are simply not willing to wait for Apple to settle a deal with a local provider. Considering that the unlocking process involves software, it's very likely that Apple's solution to the hack is going to be software as well, possibly in the form of a firmware upgrade. This method has been used by consoles before, although it has a history of "bricking" modified units. Will Apple's solution do the same thing?
