Land Rover To Launch Mobile Phone Line

LandRover.jpg

Land Rover is going to join the fray by launching its own series of phones. Partnered with Sonim Technologies, the new line will showcase mobiles fit for the rugged lifestyle.

Two co-branded phones will enter the market by mid-2009 - the Land Rover S1 by Sonim and Land Rover S2 G4 by Sonim. This will be followed later in the year by the launch of a third Land Rover phone. Sonim and Land Rover will co-market the phones to top operators, mobile retailers and consumers in a staggering 40 countries.

According to the source, the Land Rover units will support Bluetooth. No other protocols were mentioned, although I expect more in future announcements. The phones will be submersible, so make sure to ask your carrier if their signals are available underwater. They will also be resistant against salt, fog, humidity and heat, making them perfect companion devices for the outdoors. I'll keep an eye out for sample shots later on.
