Metal Gear Solid Is Coming To The iPhone

Mobile gamers, bring out the cardboard boxes! Start wearing exclamation mark-shaped hats! Well, okay, maybe don't do the second one, but fans know that games and cardboard boxes mean only one thing: Metal Gear. Granted, it can also mean Solid Snake, but you get the idea. The very popular spy game series is infiltrating the mobile world through the iPhone.

It's called Metal Gear Solid Touch and will be based on the characters and story from Metal Gear Solid 4. There will be eight levels included in the release, with more levels to be added later on. Controls will be based on the touch screen (duh), and players will be able to unlock images and wallpapers with points earned from the game.

I'm already wondering how the game will integrate stealth and tactics with touchscreen controls. It looks like a big hurdle to overcome, but maybe the devs have a solution for that already. Bringing a major series like Metal Gear to the iPhone is a big step. I wonder if other games will follow suit. Expect the game to be out on Spring 2009.
