Microsoft Announces Silverlight For Windows Mobile

Microsoft recently announced that it will be bringing Silverlight to Windows Mobile. Silverlight is a plugin that enables browsers to support animation, video and other high-quality content. Previously only available to desktops, Microsoft is upping the ante by bringing the Silverlight experience to mobiles.

Bringing Silverlight to devices expands the reach that developers and designers have when creating rich internet applications. This enables them to easily leverage content, assets, and code that they are using today for browser-based Silverlight applications. Support for Silverlight on devices will quickly help change the landscape for the types of user experiences consumers can expect from their phones by bridging rich interactivity, wireless data, media and more.

Developers will be able to get their hands on the preview soon, around the second quarter of 2008. Silverlight 1.0 will be a browser plug-in and not a separate application, similar to its original desktop form. We'll keep you updated as soon as further details develop.
