Microsoft: iPhone Is Irrelevant

iphone2.jpg

The problem with being the head or vice-head of any department within a company is that the things you say reflect as statements of the company as a whole. I'm not sure if any of the higher-ups actually give the go signal on what their underlings say but something tells me they don't.

Here's what Chris Sorenson of Microsoft's Asia-Pacific business unit had to say about the iPhone:

"It's a great music phone, and I'm sure it will be fantastic and have an interesting user interface," Microsoft's Asia-Pacific head of smartphone strategy Chris Sorenson told press during a recent visit to Australia.

"However, it's a closed device that you cannot install applications on, and there's no support for Office documents. If you're an enterprise and want to roll out line of business applications, it's just not an option. Even using it as a heavy messaging device will be a challenge," the executive added.

So, will the iPhone support Office or will we see touch-screen Zunes in the future? Somewhere, somehow, someone's got to give. I can't wait.
