Microsoft To Reveal Response To MobileMe Next Month?

11-12-08winmo65c.jpg

Microsoft is rumored to be cooking something up for the Mobile World Congress next month. It looks like it's going to unveil a new cloud-based syncing service called SkyBox, said to be a response to Apple's MobileMe. The news would've probably been more exciting if MobileMe didn't hit a couple of snags after release, but there you go.

Apparently, the company will be taking the wraps off a cloud-based syncing service called SkyBox, a MobileMe-like system which allows you to sync and backup your Windows Mobile phone OTA, though there's speculation the service might be extended to non-WM devices as well.

Other things that are in line are SkyLine, the enterprise version of SkyBox and SkyMarket, the App Store equivalent. So expect anything named "Sky" to be following this trend from now on. Microsoft looks like it's ready to take a stab at cloud-based mobile services so get ready for the hype machine to do its work. We should be able to confirm or debunk this rumor in a couple of weeks, so stay tuned.
