More App Store Inconsistencies

128px-Apple-logo.png

The Apple App Store has been a great moneymaker for a few developers who managed to hit the jackpot with the right application. It's not without its faults though. The biggest complaint so far has been the lack of transparency when it comes to getting apps approved. Apple isn't clear on what developers should do or not do in order to get the green light. Here's a recent example:

CNET's David Carnoy wrote a book called Knife Music last year, which Apple rejected for containing "objectionable content" -- a couple four-letter words beginning with F. Carnoy censored his book and Apple recently approved it for sale in the App Store.

Note that there are other apps that feature the said objectionable content, hence the need for transparency. Of course, Apple has the right to impose its rules----it is, after all, the store owner. But if you're an aspiring entrepreneur-slash-developer, you'd like to know if the product you're trying to sell is going to reach the virtual shelves in the first place.

We've covered this topic before, but the number of stories that have been appearing lately only drives the point home. Apple needs to sort its rules out and come up with something that's fair to everyone. So far, the inconsistencies have not discouraged developers, but if this continues, it's going to hurt someone sooner or later.
