New Operator Shares Investment Plans For Canada

200px-Quebecor_Media.PNG

It's been a while since we last heard of the upcoming mobile operators that are going to make the Canadian cellphone market more robust. One of those operators recently revealed its investment plans for the next few years. With the amount of money involved, you know it's serious about those plans.

Canada's Quebecor Media and Videotron have confirmed that they will invest between $800 million and $1 billion (US$800 million) over four years to roll out their mobile phone network. The new High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) network should be up and running in 12 to 18 months. The projected expenditure includes the cost of acquiring spectrum and operating licences, building out the network and initial operating costs.

It's going to take a couple of years before we start seeing actual networks and services being offered to consumers. For better or for worse, we're still stuck with the big three for now. At the very least, we do have something to look forward to.
