Nokia 5800 Problems Arise

Thumbnail image for Nokia_5800_230.jpg

Nokia is having trouble with the 5800 XpressMusic, its latest touchscreen phone model. The unit is having trouble with mobile networks in the U.S. First, the earpieces aren't sealed correctly to fight moisture. Second, users have reported that connecting to AT&T's WCDMA network. GSM and EDGE work fine, but not 3G.

In a statement Nokia said the issue was "a very isolated problem concerning only the North American market and is not specific to any other region or country", adding "Nokia is investigating the issue. Existing customers of the 5800 XpressMusic who experience 3G signal issue with the device are advised to contact Nokia Customer Care."

The issue regarding the earpieces have been isolated to a specific batch, but the connectivity problem seems to be affecting everyone. Sales of the 5800 have been suspended for now as Nokia troubleshoots the cause of the problem.
