Nokia Announces The N79 Active

Nokia has announced the N79 Active, a phone catering to those who adopt a sporty lifestyle. In fact, it's so sporty it has to come with its own heart monitor. And that's not the only thing that makes this newcomer a handy device for the athlete in you.

A-GPS tracking and the Nokia Sports Tracker app work in tandem to record your favorite routes and post your stats online. It can take note of the music you played while doing your routine and also allow to take snapshots with the N79's 5-megapixel camera.

The heart monitor was designed by Polar, who came up with a Bluetooth WearLink heart rate belt so you can keep track of your performance. Other accessories include headphones, an armband and a 4gb microSD card.

"The Nokia N79 Active is all about fun and fitness," said Juha Kokkonen, Director, Nokia Nseries. "This handset keeps you entertained on those long workouts as you get in shape for next summer, while the Polar heart rate belt lets you know exactly how you're doing. And with Sports Tracker you can add a new social dimension to your fitness program by building up and sharing a great record of all your workouts. This is an inspiring way to track your progress and to challenge yourself and fellow workout partners."

The Nokia N79 Active will be available for EUR 375. There's no word yet on whether it will hit North American shores.
