Nokia Gets Billion Dollar Lawsuit

German company IP-Com is suing Nokia for patent infringements. News of the lawsuit came through the newspaper Handelsblatt, informing readers that the late last year.

IP-Com holds around 160 patents, and the lawsuit is understood to involve six families of patents related to mobile communications. It is not clear at this time which specific patents are in dispute, although they are known to be patents originally filed by Bosch.

The company said that it had tried to negotiate a patent fee agreement with Nokia, but was unable to come to terms and chose to seek legal redress instead.

A spokesman for Nokia has said that the Finnish company will defend itself against the lawsuit, believing that the patent infringement claim is invalid. What's even more interesting in the amount involved. IP-Com is suing Nokia for $17.7 billion. We'll keep you posted on how the litigation turns out.
