692px-Ontario_arms.svg.png

If you're looking to start up a mobile content business, Ontario is definitely the place where you want to begin. The government of the Canadian province has identified that particular venture and has allocated its budget accordingly to support it. Local mobile content companies stand to directly benefit from the financial assignment. The Ontario Interactive Digital Media Tax Credit will be enhanced while the OMDC Interactive Digital Media Fund will receive new funding.

The OIDMTC has been extended to 2012 for small companies as well as extended the eligibility period for claiming the credit for 2 to 3 years. As well the tax credit level for fee-for-service work as well as for larger corporations will be raised to 25% from the previous 20%.

The Interactive Digital Media (IDM) Fund, administered by the Ontario Media Development Corporation (OMDC) will receive an additional $7 million over four years to increase the market share and support new content production of Ontario-produced online and mobile content.

While this is certainly good news, Ian Kelso, president and CEO of Interactive Ontario, points out that other technology-based sectors such as video games and e-learning need to receive government support as well. The financial aid will help boost the mobile content business in Ontario, so can expect more services, features and products in the coming months.
