Palm Introduces The Pre At CES

Palm is attempting to revive itself with two-move combination that's certainly drawing a lot of attention. Its first salvo is the announcement of its new smartphone, the Pre. I have no idea why it would name a device with a prefix, but no one seems to mind. The other half of the equation is its new operating system, dubbed WebOS.

The 3.1-inch touchscreen Palm Pre weighs 4.8 ounces also comes with a QWERTY slide-out keyboard. The phone supports Wi-Fi and EVDO and has 8GB storage.

The phone will initially be available on Sprint, but don't count on it arriving soon because Palm has yet to get FCC certification for the product. It's that early, folks. Also, there's no word on pricing yet.

Palm has been the pioneer company when it comes to smartphones and PDAs. It has suffered misfortunes over the last couple of years and seemed to be on the verge of closure altogether. Its strong presentation at CES proved naysayers wrong. Will the Pre be the salvation the company desperately needs?
