Palm Treo Pro Price Revealed, Possible Baseline For The Pre?

The cloud and silver lining saying is as old as, well, probably close to the first time that man tried to cheer himself up. Have you ever thought that maybe the opposite could be true as well? It looks like it's going to be the case for the much talked about Palm Pre, if the price indication by the Treo Pro is to be a pattern.

That's a picture of the unit from Best Buy, tagged at $699.99. Aside from the whopping price, there's also a wait involved if you're looking to order. Is the Treo Pro's cost going to be a baseline for the Pre? Let's hope not. A quick look at Froogle nets the iPhone at 500-800 USD for the 8gb version. How will the Pre stand a chance if users won't be able to by it? Will Palm have enough loyalists to give it a try come release day?
