Preview: Yahoo! Messenger For The iPhone

Yahoo! has given a preview of its messenger application for the iPhone. As the name behind one of the more popular chat programs for the PC, expectations are high. Are they going to be met or are we going to end up with something disappointing?

You'll notice that it sports an interface similar to the PC version. Contacts appear the same, retaining the custom avatars. Status messages can be set and it's nice to see that URLs can be embedded in them as well. Emoticons and photos can be sent with ease.

You can also use the same app to send text messages to your contacts. There's a switch right on the interface that toggles between SMS and chat. Recent conversations are archived, though there's no word on how long they're stored, since the PC version can do so indefinitely.
