RAZR 2 Features To Depend On Carrier

img_0221_605.jpg

We've seen the RAZR 2. We heard about the multiple versions. We read the review. We even saw the video. We thought it was safe to say that we knew all there was to know about the RAZR 2 and all that was left to do was to wait---wait for the cellphone to arrive so we could bask in its wireless glory.

But it doesn't end there. Motorola is using a different approach this time by letting five U.S. carriers determine what they want to do with the RAZR 2.

The cell phone manufacturer is pushing out versions of its RAZR2 phone on all five major U.S. carriers this fall: Alltel, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon Wireless. I got an exclusive chance to compare four of the five side by side. My take? They may look the same, but the similarities are just skin deep.

Here's the ten-second summary: The RAZR2 is a big, luxurious slab of metal and glass that feels and drives like a luxury SUV. Whichever model you get will be one of the best voice phones this year, but if you want to go beyond voice into media, e-mail, or Java applications, your mileage will vary by carrier.

There's no word yet on how this is going to affect the RAZR 2 when it hits Canada, but if what happened in the U.S. is any indication, we're going to have to really focus on the fine print to find out exactly what we're getting.
