Review: Helio Ocean

helio_ocean.jpg

Wired has the quick-and-dirty review on the Helio Ocean. Sure, it may not have all the techno-babble that other sites are known for, but they'll tell you what they loved (and hated) about the device.

WIRED Out-of-the-box text messaging via AIM, Yahoo!, and MSN. Out-of-the-box e-mail via AOL, Gmail, Windows Live, Yahoo!, and POP/IMAP accounts. Google Maps-powered GPS simple to use, gets you out of tight spots. Hot looks good way to start conversations with attractive people.

TIRED It’s a heavy, bulky brick. No dedicated number keys on the thumb ‘board. No integrated Wi-Fi to augment Sprint’s spotty network coverage. Screen virtually unreadable outdoors.

Looks like Helio is following the ways of Nintendo. The Ocean's hardly the most powerful mobile out there, but it's got features that targets a specific market (notably the IM-loving crowd). The email's a wonderful thing to have too. Helio's clearly going for the young, hip and mobile population here. Let's see if their gambit pays off.
