RIM On BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0

rimlogo.gif

Smartphones have been around for some time now, but their existence in corporate environments are still relatively new. No, I don't mean bringing your phone to the office, but actually using it as a tool for work. Outside of calls, you can use them for email, documents and browsing. If all this is done within a corporate network, system administrators are presented with potential security issues.

RIM is hoping that version 5.0 of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server will help resolve those problems, making it easier and more secure for administrators to integrate smartphones in corporate environments.

Peter Walker, senior director of software product management at RIM, said that the built-in fail-over capability in Version 5.0 will allow IT administrators to connect multiple servers with one system that is kept ready in "live, warm" high-availability mode for activation in case the primary systems start running below predetermined performance levels.

Another benefit is the management capabilities that version 5.0 will provide. Administrators will be able to enforce rules such as blacklists and whitelists. Hit the source for more.
