Smarter Than Your Average Phone

motorola_Q.jpg

"Smartphones" is an all-encompassing term for cellphones that have more functions than simply making calls and relaying text messages. I'm sure there's a more scientific definition out there but that will do for now. Now, the term itself hasn't had its share of problems. I can't find the article now but there was something about the terminology that other people didn't like. Personally, I don't use it during normal conversations. A cellphone is a cellphone. Or maybe it's because my friends would rather talk about non-phone related things.

Anyway, speaking of more functions, a recent study asked "Which smart phone is most usable?". Usability is based on the following criteria: global navigation, overall usability/information architecture, ergonomics, look and feel and functionality. The devices facing the firing squad are the Motorola Q, the Nokia E62, the Treo 700wx and the Blackberry 8800. Don't go looking for a final verdict though. All devices have their strengths and weaknesses. It's up to you to sort through the data and decide which device suits you best.
