Sony Ericsson Device Offers Portable Caller ID

sony_ericsson_hcb-150_2.jpg

We've all been told that using cellphones while driving is bad for you. It's distracting, dangerous and, in some cases, illegal. But what if it's really important, like an emergency call? Sony Ericsson proposes a solution by offering an in-transit caller ID device:

Sony Ericsson's latest hands-free kit sets out to solve one of those annoying in-car problems: knowing who's calling you without having to pick up the phone itself to glance at the display. Instead of relying solely on a secondary screen, the HCB-150 features text-to-speech, so the Bluetooth unit simply tells you who is interrupting your commute.

Your phone's contacts list can be integrated into the unit, making caller identification simple and automatic. The idea of having a talking device in your car will probably take some getting used to, so you can opt to use a visual announcement instead. Expect availability of the HCB-150 later this year.
