Sony Ericsson Goes Wii-Like With The F305

I'll admit that when the Wii and the Wii-mote were announced, I wasn't looking forward to it. Controllers are fickle things and when you get them wrong, the entire console system collapses. While I liked the idea back then, I had a few reservations about the implementation. Note that my skepticism was also fueled by the early "boomerang" controller of the PS3, something that, thankfully, never saw the light of day.

Sony Ericsson is taking a page out of Nintendo's playbook and came up with a cellphone that uses motion-sensing for gaming. How?

The F305 quad-band GSM/EDGE slider relies upon a motion-sensing accelerometer (pictured bowling), dedicated gaming controls, and stereo speakers to create the gaming experience -- an experience hampered by a wee 2.0-inch, 176 x 220 display. It ships with a standard 8-hour battery with an optional CPP-100 backup battery pack to extend play.

Mentioning the screen size is a crucial detail. With the Wii, it was easy to see the results of your actions because you could see it in front of you, in your TV, in real-time. With the F305, I'm not sure how you can accomplish that. Do you swing the phone then look at the screen immediately after? If that's the case, will the phone be smart enough to not count the last movement as part of the gameplay motion?
