Sony Ericsson K850 Also Hits 5 Megapixel Mark

The Wikipedia article on digital cameras classifies them into four categories: compact, bridge, digital SLR and digital rangefinders. In my everyday experience, I usually only run into two: the DSLR types and the non-DSLR. Most consumers, myself included, use either compact or bridge cameras, since DSLRs are usually for professional photographers and hobbyists.

When it comes to its digital camera, the one in the N95 puts most compact and bridge types to shame because of its 5-megapixel resolution. Sony Ericsson seeks to join that elite club of high-end camera phones with the K850.

The main upgrade from Sony Ericsson's previous flagship camera-phone, the K810, is the size of the sensor increasing from 3.2MP to 5MP. The user interface has also been upgraded to provide improved functionality, with a dedicated function button to control camera modes and an on-off button that also controls the opening and closing of the lens cover.

Additionally, the K850 includes a new media browser, much like that of Sony's PS3, which allows you to scroll through images by month, thumbnail or full-screen mode.

Expect the K850 to arrive later this year.
