Taking A Look At Peek

peek-blue-0.58x0.58.jpg

Today's mobiles are all about integration and multi-tasking. Not only can they be used to make phone calls, but they're cameras, recorders and organizers, to name a few. A mobile device called Peek is taking a back to basics approach by trimming features off itself and going with just one: email.

NY-based gadget startup Peek -- whose mobile device does email, and nothing else -- has started selling its gadget on the Web ahead of its nationwide launch at Target stores next Monday. And it seems to have found a few buyers already -- the gadget is already backordered online for a week in two of its three colors.

As you can see, the single-feature strategy is working well so far. It's a tad pricey though, making users pay an initial $100 followed by $20 per month. If this turns out well, you can bet that we'll see more email-only mobile gadgets appear in the future.
