Telstra To Challenge The Pre With An HTC Mobile

hdandroid.png

You'll notice that the web is all about the Palm Pre lately. To tell you the truth, I haven't seen this kind of coverage since the iPhone, so aside from the Palm hype machine running on overdrive, I'm guessing that a lot of people are genuinely excited about it.

Not everybody's smiling though. Telstra is already throwing the gauntlet down and challenging the Pre with a unit of its own care of HTC.

According to a senior executive of Telstra, HTC is going to launch a new touch phone that will be a direct competitor to iPhone and the newly released Palm Pre. In fact, Telstra’s executive after reviewing the Palm Pre at CES, said that the expected HTC phone is “better and more functional”.

The new touchscreen phone will feature a combination of the Android OS and Linux, so it'll be interesting to see how that will pan out. Other details are currently unavailable at the moment, but what's notable here is that the spotlight has shifted to the Pre, at least for now. Apple doesn't really need to comment at this point, but I wonder how what it thinks now that something has stepped on a stage it has occupied solo for so long?
