The iPhone In Canada This June?

iphone-rogersmock.jpg

Canada and the iPhone: it's an ongoing saga that has had its ups and downs. We last heard its tempting cry in December, when I bothered to count rumors and hearsay regarding the arrival of Apple's mobile.

With an introduction like that, you can probably guess what this post is about. Yes, the rumor mill is at it again. Back then, it was a Christmas deal that fueled speculation. Today, it's a news report:

The Toronto Star cites industry contacts who tell the newspaper that the country's lone major GSM cell provider, Rogers, aims to launch the iPhone in time for it to be included in a campaign promoting touchscreen phones at the company, which will include the upcoming LG Vu and likely earlier devices such as the HTC Touch. The marketing effort will begin sometime between May and July and is allegedly supported by evidence that Apple and Rogers were nearing a finalized deal earlier this year for the latter to carry the iPhone.

If you haven't jumped on the bandwagon yet and bought a jailbroken iPhone, then this is certainly good news. Of course, how good it is will be determined in the future. It's not going to be a long wait, since the source article points out that it could be released in June or July.
