T-Mobile G1 Preselling More Than Expected

androidlogo1-thumb.png

T-Mobile is reporting that presales of its G1 mobile are stronger than expected. In case you can't recall, the said unit happens to be the first Android-powered cellphone. Does this mean that Google's mobile OS is a success? Well, no, not yet. It's a possible indication of that, but it's still too early to tell.

T-Mobile on Monday said preorders for the first Android phone have been three times greater than it expected and that it can't promise to ship any more phones in time for the Oct. 22 launch.

The operator didn't disclose how many devices it has sold, so it's unclear whether this is evidence of overwhelming demand for the G1, the first phone to run Google's Android software.

Three times greater than expected? Those are certainly stronger numbers. We'll just have to wait for the final count when it comes in. As it is, things are certainly looking good for both T-Mobile and Android. Let's just see if this marks the start of a sustainable run for Android or if it will fizzle out as a one-hit wonder.
