U2 & RIM Announce Shared Vision

A lot of you may still remember the special edition iPod that was released a few years ago. What made it special was the fact that it was red, black and had U2 in it. Recent news have revealed that the Irish foursome have jumped ship and allied with RIM. The band is set to go on a tour sponsored by the BlackBerry maker, promoting what both sides call a "shared vision".

"This tour announcement marks the first stage of a relationship and shared vision between RIM and U2 that we expect will lead to new and innovative ways to enhance the mobile music experience on the BlackBerry platform for U2 fans," said manager Paul McGuinness. "We look forward to sharing more details as the relationship unfolds."

The tour will start in Europe then head to North America. There are no news on what RIM and U2 have planned beyond the sponsorship, but you can expect things to pick up when the tour hits this side of the Pacific. Music and video downloads, streaming content and other multimedia options are among the possibilities. Maybe RIM will even release a special edition BlackBerry of its own.
