UK iPhone Ad Draws Fire

You don't have to be a salesman to know that in order to sell something, advertising is the key. With that comes the temptation of overdoing it, like hyping up a product that doesn't really work as well as advertised, or simply promising more than what it can deliver.

The iPhone is under fire in the UK right now for being guilty of the latter because Apple claims that it can access all parts of the Internet. We already know that there's a problem with that statement.

In an iPhone ad aired in the UK, Apple claims that the iPhone can access "all parts of the Internet," presumably to emphasize the phone's ability to surf the Net almost as well as a desktop. But technically, it's not true -- the iPhone doesn't support Flash or Java. It may be quibbling to some, but it's too far a stretch for the UK's Advertising Standards Authority, which ordered the ad pulled.

Apple explained that it wanted to convey the message that the iPhone offered easier Internet browsing compared to other handsets. While that's certainly true, the statement itself can be misleading. Hit the source for the full details.
