Unannounced Google Feature Offers Other Searches

googlelcm.gif

Google usually likes to announce things with great fanfare. The media coverage helps spread the news to get people to talk about it. A recently discovered feature in Google mobile reveals that those searches are more than what they seem. Something is going on in the background, and considering its usefulness, it makes you wonder why it's hidden.

The new feature, that from what I can tell is new, lets you browse through categories of businesses without you having to type a word on your mobile device.

The feature works pretty well, but it would be even better if it could somehow figure out your exact location rather than simply the city. This way it could browse real businesses that are close to you rather than everything in the entire city.

It's very useful for those area-specific searches, allowing travelers to look for businesses, restaurants and other places to visit during their trips. Why Google hasn't announced this yet we don't know. Maybe it's still under beta or something, but it's an interesting feature. With all the products that it's working on, you have to wonder what else it's keeping under wraps.
