Unlock Your iPhone For Free

The race to unlock the iPhone is over. Now we're looking at open floodgates as multiple companies come at us in waves, offering unlocking solutions in different varieties. Since most of these solutions are software, the do-it-yourself kind was inevitable. A group known as the iPhone Dev Team came up with a free, DIY solution for those brave enough to try it. Their free hack exploits the same bug that the paid one does, although development between the two was done separately.

There's a catch, though. It's not a straightforward process:

But the process isn't for the faint of heart. "This unlock is not for everybody!" the iPhone Dev Team warned. The procedure involves several separate programs -- some of which must be obtained elsewhere on the Internet -- and requires that iPhone owners execute commands from a shell screen on the Mac or PC.
