Verizon To Challenge Apple With Its Holiday Lineup

www.reuters.com.jpg

U.S. provider Verizon Wireless is set to take Apple and the iPhone head-on with the Voyager, one the four new cellphones that it unveiled recently. Aside from having a touch screen, the Voyager has faster Internet access.

The Voyager is a messaging device derived from the enV, but features a large touch screen and new user interface on the front. The touch screen provides haptic feedback and has revised menus to access the phone's many features. Like the enV, it opens sideways to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard, large interior screen, and stereo speakers. It has EV-DO data, a full HTML browser with minimap, stereo Bluetooth, a 2 Megapixel camera, and a microSD slot that supports cards up to 8GB. It is also compatible with Verizon's V CAST Mobile TV service.
In a show of confidence, Verizon had this to say to say about the Voyager
"We think it'll be the best phone ... this year. It will kill the iPhone," Verizon Wireless Chief Marketing Officer Mike Lanman said in an interview.
There's no word on pricing yet. All four mobiles, including the Voyager, are set for release this holiday season.
